World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June, 2008. PM Mumbai Parivar celebrated this day with a host of activities committing themselves to upkeep the environment. All responded to the cause in a positive manner and attended the event in full force.

The program started with the inauguration of Nursery by Mr. Lalit Mehta – President (E&P BU), Reay Road. Everyone (staffs & guests) appreciated the efforts of PM for creating awareness about the environment and retaliated that all of us should take this seriously and contribute our bit to protect the environment.

All the staffs from 45, 51, Marine Lines, and Reay Road office took a tour of the Nursery, showed their keen interest and were delighted to see the variety of plants available in the nursery. The enthusiasm was so infectious that everyone made it a point to buy plants from the Nursery.
 
Some of them were amazed to see such a beautiful green nursery within the office premises and the way in which it has been developed.

Counters for the sale of Plants, Jute Bags, Caps, Drawing books besides Awareness Campaign were organized at Reay Road, E&P(BU) Ground Floor Office Reception, Reay Road Nursery and at Platform No. 2 of Reay Road Station. There was a tremendous response for all the activities.

A register was maintained to take feedback from the participants who attended the function. Feedback given by visitors has been noted and will be taken care of.

AUDIO VISUAL screening:

Eight shows of AV were arranged for the participants at different intervals.  All appreciated and congratulated Mrs Kiran Bajaj founder of this NGO for the efforts put in making such a meaningful AV on Paryavaran.  Some were impressed and suggested that copies of the DVD should be made available for screening on their local cable network and for students in schools.

Awareness Program at Reay Road railway station:    7 am to 11.30am.

The main objective of this awareness campaign was :

• To educate the general public at large on environmental issues and the importance of World Environment Day. 
• Posters & banners with various slogans, highlighting issues like spitting, littering, cleanliness, plantation etc. were displayed on the station.
• Paryavaran Mitra booth decorated with plants from PM nursery was set up on the platform of Reay Road railway station near exit.
• Cleanliness drive was arranged on the platforms & the tracks by the Station Master
• PM Promotional materials & membership forms were distributed to the visitors who showed keen interest.
• Approx.500 people visited the stall and inquired about the PM activities.
• Around 30 PM caps were sold during the campaign at the Reay Road Station.
• PM Volunteers explained to people that spitting on the stations & Public places, was not only against law but a criminal act towards society.
• Overall, the campaign went of well and brought about general public awareness about environment protection.

The Paryavaran Mitra – World Environment Day Awareness Program was a grand success and as a Team we are grateful to our President Mrs. Kiran Bajaj for helping us bring forth awareness of such public issues and inculcating is us a habit of being “friends of the environment” and helping us preserve the same for the next generation to come.

Team spirit and participants for making this program a grand success was markable.
