World Environment Day and on 21st June 2008

Venue: -Bajaj Electricals, Reay Road.
Reay Road Railway station.

World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June, 2008 all over the World.  We Paryavaran Mitra members at Bajaj Electricals Limited also celebrated in a manner people were really impressed and gave their response in a positive way.

We assembled at our Reay Road premises at 6.30 a.m.  We started program well in time and the inauguration of Nursery took place at 8.45 a.m. by Mr. Lalit Mehta, President (E&P BU).  Mr. Mehta spoke a few words on Paryavaran Mitra on goings and he appreciated the awareness created about protecting the environment and natural resources.  He also said that this noble cause has initiated him to understand the value of water and in his day-to-day life he is contributing such that he does not waste water by keeping the tap open for a long time or wasting water in other way.

Mr. C.G.S. Mani, EVP & Head (Lighting BU) was our other guest who honored us in giving his speech by telling that Paryavaran Mitra activities should not be carried out by any individual in a casual attitude. All of us should take this seriously and contribute to protect the environment.

Mr. Pratap Gharge, VP & CIO, appreciated the efforts of entire team who worked very hard in co-coordinating   this program to bring it to a grand success.

Then the proceedings took place.  All the staff from 45, 51, Marine Lines, and Reay Road office took a round of our Nursery and understood the various kinds of plants available there.  They were delighted to see the variety of plants and bought few also.

Most of the staff were surprised to see a huge Nursery.  One said, “I can’t believe we have such a beautiful nursery in our own office premises.” Another staff added, “the way in which nursery has developed in such a small available place is great.”

We kept three Counters one at E&P(BU) Ground Floor Office Reception , One at Reay Road  Garden—Nursery and at Reay Road Railway Station, Platform No 2. Sale of Plants, Jute Bags, Caps, Drawing books and Awareness Campaign activities took place over these places.

It was a good response from the employees. Most of the staff expressed that it was a pleasant opportunity for all of us to visit the Nursery, not only to buy plants but also to get motivation to save plants and be a friend of environment.

AUDIO VISUAL SHOWS:

We arranged eight shows of AV.  The AV on Paryavaran Mitra was successfully screened in the Conference Room of E&P BU.  There was a great response from the viewers.  All of them expressed their view on the AV.  They all congratulated the making of this and the Paryavaran Team.  Some of them were really very impressed with the show and wanted copies of this DVD, so that they can screen the same in their local cable network and local schools.

Awareness at Reay Road railway station: - 7 am to 11.30am.

The main aim of this awareness campaign was to educate general public on environmental issues on the day of world environment day.  We had prepared slogans, posters on issues like spitting, littering, cleanliness, plantation etc. Paryavaran Mitra booth was set up on platform number two at Reay Road railway station.  Booth was decorated by plants from PM nursery and slogans.  Station master of Reay Road arranged for a cleanliness drive on the platforms and tracks.  We have given promotional material of PM to the people who showed interest in knowing more about it. While answering few questions of people our volunteers on the station communicated PM membership scheme and distributed membership forms.

From 5000 people passing PM Booth, around 500 people waited and had look at slogans, posters displayed and they have collected PM material to know more about it.  We had kept PM caps for sale at the station and we sold 30 caps during our campaign.  Mr. Kutty Krishnan was encouraging people to come at PM Booth and get more knowledge on environment. Mr. Kutty and Mr. Anand Tuscano, PM coordinator had spoke to people who were spitting at the station on this day and explain them importance of not spitting at Public places.

Overall campaign went of well and through this campaign general public got an opportunity to learn more about environment.

It was a grand success of this program and we are grateful to our President Mrs. Kiran Bajaj for inculcating such awareness in our minds and souls.
