Awareness Programme on Air Pollution Reduction activity was conducted by Chennai Parivars on 22nd Dec 2007 at Sri Balaji Enterprises, an IBP Petrol Bunk, Ullagaram, Chennai.

Mr Ramesh, President, Lions Club of Keelakattalai (Chennai), was the Chief Guest. Mr. Ramesh is associated with Lions Club activities since 2000. He has done many social projects and done more than 150 projects in his role as Secretary, Lions Club. He has donated his blood 59 times. He has been the Umpire for National Championship- Carrom. His interest includes pet animals too, he is known for German shepherd dog in India. Many marathon projects were undertaken by him.

Our Programme started at 10.15 AM on 22.12.07.

Branch Parivar members, comprising of Mr. L N Raghuraman, Mrs. Annamma Vergheese, Mrs Radha Balaji, Mrs. Kavita, Mr Ramanan and Mr Lakshmanan participated in the programme. Small briefing about Paryavaran Mitra and BEL’s role was explained to the Petrol Bunk Manager, who was also involved in the activity.

Four small boards were made with slogans/ write ups both in Tamil and English were exhibited at the Bunk.

Our Parivar Members who participated in the activity distributed pamphlets to reduce pollution and explained the role of Paryavaran Mitra and BEL. There was good response and it was suggested by some people that the pamphlets should be printed both in English and local language so that the message can reach to all sections of the society. This suggestion has been taken in the right spirit and would be followed for future activities.

Along with the distribution of pamphlets and explaining regarding PM and BEL, our parivar members also did the sticking of bull’s eye on the headlight of all the vehicles – motorcycle/ cars/ jeep / autos as a step towards road safety initiatives. This has been welcomed by many people who appreciated the role of BEL.

Around 250 people were contacted by our parivar members explaining the initiatives of PM and on the tips to reduce Auto Pollution.

The programme ended with Vote of Thanks by Mr. L.N. Raghuraman, BSSM.
