On 26.04.2007 Kolkata PM Parivar had organized an awareness programme for drivers. There were 15 drivers present in the program from nearby offices and parking area.  During the programme we gave them inputs and simultaneously obtained their feedback.

Inputs Given:

1. Showed the PM presentation (Hindi) to the drivers.
2. Briefed the group on the concept of global warming in simple words and the effects of the same.
3. Explained how our vehicles are responsible polluting the air and how they can contribute in stopping/reducing such harm to the environment, as Kolkata is one of highest polluted cities in the World.
4. Requested them to do the following for better environment :-

• To do regular PUC of their vehicle.
• To do regular servicing of the vehicle.
• Stop smoking and chewing Guthka / such other tobacco items.
• Avoid using Horn as much as possible.
• Keep the cars clean.

Feedback received from the drivers:

1. They were very happy that such a program was organized.
2. The drivers confessed that they are less literate people and their acquaintance is also with people who are less literate. Hence they never had opportunity to discuss or hear such things that was discussed in the program.
3. Drivers said that there are some owners of vehicles who only takes the car to the garage when there is a problem otherwise there is no regular servicing of the car and hence the condition of the car becomes bad.
4. Some owners insist in blowing the horn frequently because they feel that by blowing the horn the road will be cleared quickly and they will reach the destination earlier. Even in night also the owners insist the drivers to blow horn frequently when it is known that to overtake we should signal by the headlight. 
5. The last feedback, which is received from the drivers, is the most dangerous of all, i.e., they informed us that if a vehicle does not pass the test of PUC then the owners get the PUC done by bribing the person who was doing the PUC instead of getting the car serviced.
