4th FOUNDERS’ DAY Celebration
PM Parivars all over the country celebrated the 4th Founders’ Day on 24 September 2008. The members everywhere participated with missionary zeal. Looking to the enthusiasm and spirit of involvement, it was evident that Paryavaran Mitra has finally arrived. The programme commenced with PM coordinators welcoming the guests. The PM AV in respective languages was screened. A special message from President Kiran Bajaj was read out.
Leading personalities were the Chief Guest – Pune (Usha Mali, Environment activist), Hyderabad (A.Sunder Raj, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer, AP Pollution Control Board), Chennai (N. Rajasker, Secretary, Industrial Estate Manufacturer’s Association), Bangalore (Dr. Sasikala Natarajan, Former Principal of Baldwins Girls High School & an environment activist), Lucknow (Yogesh Bhatt, leading Advocate), Chandigarh (Kamla Sharma, former Mayor), Guwahati (Rajendra P. Agarwalla, IFS- Chief Conservator of Forests, Assam), Chakan Unit (Neha Naikade, Director- ‘Bright Carrier’), Patna (Narendra Kumar Singh, social activist).
- In Ahmedabad function, a member of PM, Dipak Arora announced his goal to plant and maintain at least 1000 trees.
- Indore Parivar also carried out a plantation drive at Bajaj Island.
- Cochin Parivar interlinked the event with the Anniversary Celebrations of National Service Scheme since they too have “Save Nature” as their objective.
- Delhi & Noida Parivars had OP Babbar, MLA as Chief Guest. They accepted the- offer made by Devendra Mohan Katyal, MCD Councilor to adopt three parks.
- Jaipur Parivar organized a seminar and a paper presentation on “Energy Saving” at Jaipur Engineering College & Research Centre. Dr. Suraj Ziddi, Assistant Conservator of Forest was the Chief Guest.
- Kolkata programme commenced with rendering of Tagore songs on Nature by Rina Das followed by a dance composition performed by Parnika Kundu. PM Patron Member and BEL Associate Sunil Agarwal and PM Member BK Sharma of Riga Sugar shared their perceptions and commended the work of PM.
- Competitions were also organized by Ranjangaon Unit (Essay, Speech, Drawing in Vidyadham Prashala, Shirur)
- Colour-filling at Shirur based Vidyadham Prashala.
- Bhubaneswar organized a debate by Engineering & Management students on ‘Suggested measures for Energy Conservation’.
- Raipur had a Speech competition on ‘Role of Energy Conservation in Saving Environment’ by MRS Senior Secondary Girls’ School.
Celebrations in Mumbai
The very exterior and the stage of the venue- Patkar Hall- was transformed into an environment friendly ambience. The specially designed entrance gate, the counters for PM products, the side panels carrying photographs and other communication material of PM and the stage with greens all over seemed to be the perfect setting for the event- 4th Founders’ Day Celebrations.
More than 400 people including Bajaj employees and associates were present.
The PM Audio visual set the tone of the 3-hour interest filled program.
Individual BU initiatives of Bajaj Electricals were presented by Lalit Mehta, Executive President, E&P and P S Tandon, Executive President, Appliances. They shared various eco friendly methods / processes / products / packaging and other initiatives that E&P, Fans, Luminaires, Lighting and Appliances Business Units have undertaken.
Founder and President of Paryavaran Mitra, Kiran Bajaj, then addressed the gathering. Drawing extensively from her own daily experiences, she interstingly and with anecdotes elaborated the little acts each one of us can do in the realms of Land, Water, Air and Noise pollution. In conclusion, she appealed to every one to be aware of environmental issues and be a part of the Paryavaran Mitra Movement.
The highlight of the evening was a play named “Ye Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan”. It was presented by Stree Mukti Sanghatana – an NGO working towards women’s rights and environment education. Performed in the genre of a nukkad natak, the play depicted Mumbai’s environmental problems and offered solutions, especially cleanliness and waste management. President Kiran Bajaj presented each performer and musician with a memento. Jyoti Mhapsekar, President of Stree Mukti Sanghatna received an indoor plant and a thunderous ovation for producing such wonderful and meaningful play. This was the debut performance of the play.
The entire event was anchored by Beena Koshy and the vote of thanks was proposed by Suvrashis Sarkar for all who contributed to the success of the event.
