Activity -1: Program with Naktala Pally Mangal Samiti on 5th & 6th July, 2008
Venue: Club compound at Naktala Road, Tollygunj, Kolkata
Date: 5th and 6th July, 2008 (Saturday and Sunday).
Paryavaran Mitra in association with Naktala Pally Mangam Samiti, a local club in Naktala Road, Tollygunj, Kolkata has participated in a two day long social-environmental-cultural program on 5th and 6th July, 2008 (Saturday and Sunday).
83 participants of different age group took part in a drawing contest on environmental themes, arranged on 5th July at 4:00 PM.
The theme for children group (aged below 6 years) was Your Environment
The themes for Group A (aged: 6 – 9 years), Group B (aged: 9 – 12 years) & group C (aged: 12 – 15 years) were Air, Water & Noise Pollution respectively.
At the end of the Contest a presentation was delivered by Ms. Sinharay, the Regional Coordinator_ East of Paryavaran Mitra to spread awareness on Environmental issues.
The Audio Visual DVD of PM was also shown to the children, their parents and the local residents to make them aware of PM initiatives and objectives.
This was followed by a cultural program and awareness program against superstition associated with astronomic events.
A blood donation camp was organized on 6th July, Sunday morning.
In the afternoon at 4:00 PM a plantation program was arranged with active association of Paryavaran Mitra.
10 saplings of Fruit trees and Ornamental plants including one Aloe plant (medicinal plant), provided by Paryavaran Mitra, and 30 Devdaru saplings, provided by the club were planted around club premises.
Exercise copies were distributed among 105 poor school students of the locality and surrounding region in the evening.
Paryavaran Mitra awarded the winners of the drawing contest and acknowledged all participants with Certificate of Participation. Three winners from each group were awarded a memento, with PM logo inscribed on it, each with a Certificate.
The club President Mr. Mrinal Bhattacharya, an employee at Institute of Environmental studies & Wetland Management, the special guest Dr. Sujit Bannerjee, an eminent scientist and local resident showed interest in PM activities and expressed their willingness to be associated with Local Environment Improvement Drive. Mr. Bhattachrya, the president of the club also said that Naktala Pally Mangal Samiti will arrange awareness and cleaning drive in the locality and would be happy if Paryavaran Mitra joins their initiative.

Activity -2t: Plantation Drive
Venue: Two Primary Schools at Chinsura, Hooghly
Date: 26th July 2008
Vivekananda Vidyamandir, a primary school situated at Ramkrishna Road, Chinsura, Hooghly provides primary education to about 150 students of the locality from lower middle class background. There is another Nursery & KG School, named Vivekanada Shishutirtha, adjacent to the former.
Paryavaran Mitra organized an Awareness Meeting with the students, teachers of the school and parents.
Ms. Sinharay & Mr. Gourav , representatives from Paryavaran Mitra conducted those workshops. About 40 students and parents of the KG school along with teachers were oriented on our responsibility towards environment.
At Vivekananda Vidyamandir parent teacher meeting was going on. PM Representatives oriented about 50 students and 30 parents in the school that day.
Students of class 3-4 were taught how to plants saplings and were sensitized to plant more and more trees in order to save environment. They were then taken to the adjacent field to plant few saplings. Few interested students were also given a sapling each to plant that in their residence.
Students showed great enthusiasm in carrying out the plantation program. About 30 Tree saplings were planted and distributed that day. Mr. G. Sen and Mr. Partha helped the Regional Coordinator in this plantation drive.
Kolkata Parivar
Activity - 3: Plantation Drive
Venue: Rashtraguru Surendranath College, RiversidexRoad Campus, Barrackpur
Date: 28th July2008, Monday
Another Plantation Drive was organized at Rashtraguru Surendranath College at Riverside Road Campus, Barrackpore on 28th July 2008, Monday at 11 PM.
The Principal Mr. Ajay Mukherjee had informed the 1st year students and also the NCC and NSS Cadets of the college to take part in the event.
After an Orientation Meeting at the college auditorium about 100 students planted tree saplings in the college campus. Paryavaran Mitra has donated 15 tree saplings.
Mr. Mukherjee, the Principal praised such initiative and agreed to jointly organize an educative seminar on Environmental issue in the auditorium with the students of the college.
Activity-4: Awarenes Programme conducted at the Training program for Service Technicians, sales persons from Shopping malls, CSD, etc., at Kolkata office on 15th July 2008.
