Independent Day Celebration on 15th August 2008, Friday
Celebration by Kolkata Parivar
At Janai Training High School, Village-Janai, District-Hooghly, West Bengal

Paryavaran Mitra Kolkata Parivar celebrated Independence Day on 15th August 2008, Friday at Janai Training High School, Janai, Hooghly District, WB.
At 8:00 AM 400 Students and Teachers of the school and the PM Parivar members assembled at the School premises and started arrangements for the ceremony.


The Head Master of the School Mr. Abdul Hakim Khan Hoisted the National Flag at 8:30 AM. Subsequent to the National Anthem, Mr. Rabindranath Bhattacharya (teacher) stated the importance of the Day and also the Head Master delivered his speech. Mr. Ujjwal Gupta introduced Ms. Sinharay and other PM representatives to the students.


Ms. Sanghamitra Sinharay, Regional PM Coordinator (East) oriented students on the present status of environment and their responsibility as Citizens of Independent India to guide the nation towards Sustainable Development. They were informed that the environmental damage India encountered after Independence was worse than that during the entire period of rule by outsiders like Mughals to British. She also sensitized students to take care of the environment starting from their respective locality.


Students also got to know the importance of trees for our environment, as well as, for human civilization. They took oath to start environment building initiatives by planting tree saplings in their school compound.


Total 50 saplings were planted ignoring the interruption by heavy downpour.
Due to heavy rain the plantation activity was interrupted but resumed after the rain stopped.

Students were given small refreshment after the program.

ACTIVITY : TWO
Awareness through Motor cycle Expedition to Ladakh
North Calcutta Disha have arranged a Motorcycle Expedition to 20,000 feet height and beyond on the Highest Motorable Road of the World in Ladakh. 7 members are taking part in this expedition on 4 motor bikes.
The Team started their Journey on 18th August 2008, Monday at 12:00 PM.
Rajarhat Gopalpur Municipality and West Bengal State Council of Sports joined in arranging the Expedition Onset program at Bablatala Kali Park, Gopalpur, Kolkata.

About 600 spectators watched the program with lot of enthusiasm. Mr, Prasun Banerjee, Ex Football Player and Arjuna Award winner, was the Chief Guest in this Program. Bishwajit Palit, Ashiad Gold Medalist Kabaddi Player was Special Guest.
The guests and the organizers inspired the members of expedition team and praised them for making an attempt to set a World record.
Team Members also shared their vision and Mission.

Representatives of different TV and Print Media covered the Event. PM distributed Caps with PM Logo to the Expedition Team members, support staffs and media representatives.
Paryavaran Mitra took this opportunity to place their objective amongst wider section
of people and towards this, PM Banners with messages were also displayed in front of the stage to attract the attention of spectators.

Paryavaran Mitra Member Mr. Indra Dev Chatterjee is also part of the expedition team and during his speech he raised the issue of Environment Protection in order to save earth and to maintain the dignity of Mother Nature by stopping Environmental abuses.

The chief Guest Mr. Prasun Bannerjee also highlighted the issue of Air Pollution and its direct impact on the health of sportsmen.

Through theses means Paryavaran Mitra utilized the hype regarding the program in creating some awareness among the spectators watching the programme directly and the public viewing the TV / reading newspapers.

The expedition Team is also carrying a PM Banner and is going to display that on the highest point they will reach.

Every one wished the team success in this endeavour.

Students and Teachers of the school and PM Parivar members totaling to about 400 assembled at the School compound and started arrangements for the ceremony. The Head Master of the School Mr. Abdul Hakim Khan Hoisted the National Flag at 8:30 AM.
